         Spin, spin, and you never take a rest,

         In producing the silk, you do your best,

         Spin, no matter how the cock is crowing aloof,

         Spin, whatever the sun or stars shine through the roof.

         Spin, with delights, and never tire out with fun,

         Spin, a song from your heart will run,

         The strong threads become long under your feet,

         Your memory is full of the primrose’s sweet.

         You remember the cuckoo’s sing full of the Spring,

         You remember the scent of mulberry heavily floating,

         You remember you used to be a beautiful butterfly,

         You remember you are lithe to fly in the sky.

         But you are not and never grief,

         Spin, no respite however brief,

         You don’t care if you can wrap yourself indeed,

         If only the silk can wrap those who are in need.
